Irrigation Valve Box Branding Irons
Custom marking tools for irrigation contractors
Mark compatible plastic valve-box lids with the component identifiers your irrigation project calls for. We make custom brass branding heads for repeated letters, abbreviations and identification marks, paired with a Professional 500W temperature-controlled electric tool.
Need an FS, QC, MCV or another project-specific mark? Send the required lettering and lid details for sizing help. If you already know your configuration, order the complete Irrigation Valve Box Lid Branding Iron and upload your artwork.

A fixed mark for the lids you identify
Component identification
A fixed custom head suits the same identifier repeated across a batch of lids. Choose the exact wording, character height and style shown in your project documents.
Installation and maintenance
Mark removable lids in a powered work area before installation, or identify replacement lids as your maintenance scope requires. Tell us where the tool will be used.
Your own custom wording
Company names, ownership marks and other accepted identification layouts can also be reviewed. Already own a Legacy tool? Send its model or a photo when asking about an additional head.
When public-project specifications call for valve-box branding
Government project drawings and maintenance contracts can specify heat branding, finished letter height, marking depth or an alternative identification method. The examples below show why the exact issued drawing matters. They are requirements within the named documents, rather than one rule covering every irrigation project.
Virginia: FS and MCV in a 2017 park irrigation drawing
Goochland County’s Leakes Mill Park Phase II irrigation drawing L1.2, dated June 29, 2017, calls for heat-branded FS on the flow-sensor lid and MCV on the master-control-valve lid. Its general station-number note separately uses a brass tag or equivalent. This historical drawing illustrates different identification methods within one project.
Read drawing L1.2: flow-sensor and master-control-valve details.
Arizona: two-inch stencil-outline characters in a 2025 streetscape specification
The City of Douglas’s G Avenue Streetscape Improvements technical specifications, dated August 2025, require identifying letters and numbers to be two inches high and heat-branded using purpose-designed stencil outlines. The marking must not weaken or puncture the cover. Use the project’s detail drawings for the actual identifiers.
Utah: three-inch QC in a 2023 quick-coupler detail
Moab’s October 2023 Kane Creek Boulevard Reconstruction irrigation drawing IR7 calls for a round tan plastic quick-coupler valve-box cover with three-inch-high heat-branded QC lettering. Its size differs from the two-inch requirement above. A three-inch character requires its own layout and lid-clearance review.
California: replacement-lid identification in a July 2024 maintenance contract
Simi Valley’s Landscape District No. 1 Maintenance Services Contract B, specification SV 25-08, July 2024, calls for branding or stenciled valve-box identification as directed by the Landscape Inspector. It includes re-branding or stenciling replacement lids and annual identification work during January through April. The same section specifies a Splice Box brand for wire-repair or splice boxes. These are requirements of that contract edition; check the documents issued for your own maintenance work.
Include your current specification when asking for a project-specific tool. A Legacy artwork proof confirms the proposed engraving layout; any required project acceptance remains with the project’s reviewer.
Size the finished lettering, then choose the head
The product’s size options describe nominal head dimensions. Finished characters, spacing and the margin around the artwork must also fit. A nominal 2 × 2-inch head does not automatically fit a two-inch-high letter, and a five-inch-wide head does not automatically provide five inches of usable artwork width.
Single letters and short repeated marks can be reviewed against our standard sizes. Longer abbreviations such as MCV, three-inch lettering and larger layouts may require a different configuration or a custom quotation. Send the actual character height, outline style and placement detail rather than selecting a head from the abbreviation alone.
Check the actual lid and its marking area
Rain Bird’s VB-STD manufacturer sheet specifies a marking area of at least 6 × 2 inches and identifies the black lid as recycled HDPE. That is a useful model-specific starting point. It does not establish the same area on every Rain Bird lid or guarantee that a particular tool will clear surrounding features. See the manufacturer sheet, page 2.
NDS’s Standard 14 × 19-inch family has HDPE covers and a polypropylene box body, with different overlap and drop-in cover dimensions. The family’s trade size is not the clear marking area. Include the exact cover model, color and a photo showing where the mark will go. See the NDS cover specification.
Plastic formulations, texture and surface shape vary. Practise on matching material before marking finished lids. If a material test would help, contact us before sending a sample so we can confirm the test and shipping arrangements.
Looking for NDS valve box lid branding? Send the exact cover model, color and clear marking area with your lettering. We review the particular lid and layout; the brand name alone does not establish suitability.
Order a complete tool or ask for sizing help
Irrigation Valve Box Lid Branding Iron
The complete tool includes a custom brass head and temperature-controlled electric branding tool. Select a standard size, attach your artwork and order through the irrigation product page. We send a digital proof for approval before production.
For an uncertain layout, send:
- Your exact letters, numbers or artwork, with the required finished size and project detail.
- The lid manufacturer/model and color, a photo, and the clear marking width × height if known.
- Whether the same mark repeats or changes between lids, and where electrical power is available.
A photo is useful when you do not know the lid model or marking area. We can ask about any remaining details.
Questions about irrigation identification stamps
Can every lid have a different station number?
A fixed head reproduces the same mark. Tell us how many different combinations you need before ordering. A long sequence of changing station numbers may need a different marking arrangement.
Can I use the tool where there is no electrical power?
The complete 500W tool is electric. Tell us if marking must happen away from a powered work area; removable lids may be marked before installation where the project allows. Follow the tool’s instructions for its power requirements.
What temperature should I use on an HDPE or polypropylene lid?
There is no single setting specified here for every lid. Follow the supplied tool instructions and adjust on matching material. A setting demonstrated on another plastic is not an established recipe for your cover. See the Professional 500W instructions and our plastic marking guide.
Does buying the tool mean the project will accept the mark?
The tool reproduces your chosen artwork. Your issued specification controls lettering, method and placement, and any required sample approval follows the project’s process. Include those details so the proposed tooling can be reviewed against them.
